How our animals are treated

We believe that all animals have the right to lead a life without suffering, whether they are companion animals or farm animals raised for food. All of our proteins come from humane and ethical farmers. The animals are treated well from birth to slaughter.

My dogs will eat nearly 10,000 chickens in their lifetime. I didn’t want that consumption to support farming practices that keep animals in cages, crates, or tie stalls. We work with farms that raise their animals naturally. Chickens can flap their wings and dust bathe, pigs have space to move around and root, and cows roam freely. Our farmers feed their animals a diet of quality feed, without antibiotics or growth hormones.

What We’ve Achieved

Control of our supply chain. We have an active relationship with the farmers we purchase from. We visit most farms frequently to pick up product.

Better nutrition. Local food is better for you. The shorter the time between the farm and your table, the more nutrients fresh food retains. Imported food travels and sits in warehouses for long periods before it gets to your dog’s bowl.

Safer food. Local food is safe. There's a unique kind of assurance that comes from knowing the farmer and process. Local farmers aren't anonymous and they take their responsibility to the consumer seriously.

Investment in the future. Local food is an investment in the future. Supporting local farmers today helps farms remain in your community tomorrow. This is critically important for food security, especially in light of an uncertain energy future and our current reliance on fossil fuels to produce, package, distribute and store food.

Peace of mind. You may find peace of mind knowing the humane conditions under which an animal was born, raised, butchered, and processed. We love all animals, not just our pets.
